The External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA)

The EISA is a national exam that is meant to ensure a uniform standard for the qualification. The exam is set and administered by SAIS.

Candidates can only register for this exam if they have successfully completed the knowledge, practical skills and workplace components of the Occupational Certificate: Financial Markets Practitioner or if they comply with the recognition of prior learning requirements set out below.

The exam is set in such a way that candidates are required to integrate knowledge, practical skills and work experience i.e. the emphasis is on the application of what they have learned. The exam is strictly controlled by the QCTO and has to comply with all their regulations.​


EISA 2018

The next EISA will be written in March 2018.

Specific dates will be announced.

The EISA consists of two papers of two hours each. An additional thirty minutes’ reading time is allowed for each paper.

The exam paper will be in English and candidates are expected to answer in English.

A candidate who wishes to write the EISA must have:

  • Passed all the modules of the Advanced Diploma in Financial Markets offered by the University of Johannesburg

  • Completed the workplace component of the Occupational Certificate in Financial Markets at a SAIS approved workplace.
  • Candidates who wish to enrol for the exam must apply on the official application form and submit the form, all the supporting documentation and proof of payment of the exam registration fee to:


    Registration fee: R5 490.00 (including VAT)

    Candidates who have registered and who comply with all the admission requirements will receive a letter of confirmation from SAIS. This letter must be presented at the exam venue on both exam days. The letter will contain further information on the exams.

    Access to the EISA through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

    Candidates who have been working in the financial markets and who have passed some or all of the JSE exams and who wish to obtain the Occupational Certificate: Financial Markets Practitioner may apply to write the EISA, provided that they comply with the RPL requirements set by SAIS.

    Candidates who wish to enter via the RPL route have to fill in the EISA registration form and submit it, together with the required documentation and proof of payment of the EISA registration fee before the registration closing date to

    Please note that all applications will be considered by the SAIS Education Committee. The Education Committee has the right to call any candidate for an interview to assess the candidate’s knowledge and/or evaluate the candidate’s work experience. The committee may require the candidate to undergo specific theoretical, practical or work-based training before allowing him/her to enter the EISA.
